CDS (COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES)?

COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES (CDS) is the examination that is conducted twice a year by the UPSC union public service commission for the recruitment into the Officer’s training academy, Indian military academy, Naval academy, and Indian Air Force Academy. Successful candidates are thereafter admitted into their respective academies after the successful completion of SSB (service selection board). SSB (SERVICE SELECTION BOARD) 5 to 6 days interview process which includes different rounds of assessment. The assessment round involves different modules to assess the candidate’s personality evaluated the overall personality of the candidate by keeping in mind various OLQ’s i.e. Officer Like Qualities. The sole purpose of the SSB is to find out whether the candidate has that zeal of standing straight irrespective of the situation and to keep the flag high.

Different factors involved in CDS written EXAM PATTERN:

Mode of examination: The CDS written examination is an offline mode examination. Paper pen mode. Candidates are required BLACK BALLPOINT PEN.

The Medium of CDS written examination: Question paper for both CDS PAPER II and PAPER III is bilingual that includes both Hindi and English. CDS PAPER I that is the English language part will be in English.

PAPER-I: This paper is Compulsory for all the four academies including INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY, INDIAN AIR FORCE ACADEMY, INDIAN NAVAL ACADEMY, and OFFICER’S TRAINING ACADEMY.

PAPER-II: This paper is Compulsory for all the four academies including INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY, INDIAN AIR FORCE ACADEMY, INDIAN NAVAL ACADEMY, and OFFICER’S TRAINING ACADEMY.

PAPER-II: This paper is Compulsory for only three academies including INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY, INDIAN AIR FORCE ACADEMY, INDIAN NAVAL ACADEMY.

POST QUALIFYING WRITTEN EXAM:

SSB (SERVICE SELECTION BOARD) is a 4 to 5 days interview process that assesses the personality of the candidate with different Officer Like Qualities. The main motive of the SSB interview is to find out whether the candidate has that determination of standing straight in all circumstances.

ELIGIBILITY FACTORS:

  • Nationality: A candidate must be unmarried male • a citizen of India OR • a subject of Bhutan OR • a subject of Nepal OR • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 intending to permanently settle in India OR • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma and East African Countries of the United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India.
  • Age Limit, Sex, and Marital Status: Only unmarried male candidates of age group 20 and 24 years for IMA/AIR FORCE ACADEMY/NAVAL ACADEMY. Female candidates of age group 20 to 24 years are eligible for OTA only.
  • Educational Qualifications: For I.M.A. and Officers Training Academy – Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
  • For Air Force Academy –Degree from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelors of Engineering.
  • For Indian Naval Academy –Degree in Engineering from a recognized University/Institution.
  • Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to their respective academies as per guidelines in the official notification.
